Discord banner sizes explained

Discord uses the word “banner” for three different images, and each has its own size:

• Profile banner: 600 × 240 px minimum, displayed at a 2.5:1 ratio at the top of your user profile card. Larger uploads such as 1500 × 600 are fine as long as the ratio stays 2.5:1. Requires Nitro. Animated GIF banners also require Nitro.
• Server banner: 960 × 540 px (16:9), shown at the top of the channel list and on the server profile. Requires the server to be at Boost Level 2. An animated server banner requires Level 3.
• Server invite splash: 1920 × 1080 px (16:9), the background of invite links. Requires Boost Level 1.

Discord crops anything that does not match the ratio, and it crops from the center, so text at the edges of a wide image is often lost. Cropping the banner yourself at the right ratio before uploading is the only way to control what is shown.

Best practices for Discord banners

• Keep the subject in the center. The profile card, the server header and the mobile app each crop a little differently. Centered artwork survives all of them.
• Remember the overlap. On a user profile, the avatar sits over the bottom-left corner of the banner. Leave that corner free of text.
• Use high contrast for server banners. The server name is drawn on top of the banner, so avoid busy detail or light colors behind it.
• Export larger than the minimum when you can. For profile banners, 1500 × 600 (still 2.5:1) looks sharper on high-resolution screens. The tool’s 600 × 240 preset is the safe minimum.
