How the small text generator works

Apps do not let you shrink the font size, but Unicode contains three sets of characters that look smaller than regular letters:

• Small caps (ꜱᴍᴀʟʟ ᴄᴀᴘꜱ) come from the Phonetic Extensions and Latin Extended blocks. They look like uppercase letters shrunk to the height of lowercase ones.
• Superscript (ˢᵘᵖᵉʳˢᶜʳⁱᵖᵗ) letters and digits sit above the baseline and are the smallest, which is why “tiny text” usually means superscript.
• Subscript (ₛᵤ₆ₛ𝒸ᵣᵢₚₜ) letters sit below the baseline. Unicode only defines subscript forms for some letters (a, e, h, i, j, k, l, m, n, o, p, r, s, t, u, v, x), so other letters stay at normal size.

The generator replaces each letter in your text with the small version. The output is still ordinary text, so it survives in usernames, bios and comments where formatting is normally stripped.

Where small text works

Instagram (bio, name, captions, comments), TikTok (name, bio, captions), Discord (display names, About Me, channel names, messages), X (posts, bio, display name), Facebook, LinkedIn, YouTube (channel names, descriptions, comments), WhatsApp, Telegram, Threads, Bluesky, Reddit, Twitch and Snapchat all display these characters. Handles (@usernames) do not accept them on most platforms; use them in display names instead.

Best practices

• Small caps are the most readable. Superscript is the tiniest but the hardest to read on small screens, so keep it to a few words.
• Keep searchable words plain. Platforms treat ᴛⁱⁿʏ characters as different from normal letters, so keywords and hashtags in small text are not found by search.
• Check subscript output. Because Unicode has no subscript form for several letters, words containing b, c, d, f, g, q, w, y or z will show those letters at normal size.

Accessibility note

Screen readers announce many of these characters by their Unicode names or skip them, and superscript is hard for low-vision readers to see. Use small text for decoration and keep essential details in normal text. Very old devices may display some characters as boxes.

Why are some letters not small in subscript?

Unicode has no subscript characters for those letters, so the generator leaves them unchanged. Use Superscript or Small Caps for a complete alphabet.

Why does my small text show as boxes?
