The Telegram Photo Resizer is a free online tool that instantly resizes, crops, and optimizes your images to match every Telegram image size requirement. Whether you need a crisp profile picture, a bold channel cover, clean in-chat photos, or a perfectly square 512×512 sticker, this resizer handles it all in seconds, right in your browser, with no sign-up, no watermark, and no software to install.
Telegram is famous for its speed, cloud sync, and creator-friendly features, but its image pipeline applies aggressive compression and strict dimensional rules. Upload a photo that is too small and it looks pixelated. Upload a photo that is too large and Telegram will recompress and crop it in ways you cannot control. Our resizer solves both problems by giving you the correct pixel dimensions, aspect ratio, and file format for every Telegram placement before you hit send.
Current Telegram image size specifications
Telegram supports a range of image placements across personal profiles, channels, groups, bots, and sticker packs. Below are the recommended dimensions for each, updated to reflect what Telegram accepts and displays cleanly in 2026.
Telegram profile picture
- Recommended size: 512 x 512 pixels (square, 1:1)
- Minimum size: 150 x 150 pixels
- Format: JPG or PNG
- Maximum file size: around 5 MB, but keep it under 1 MB for the fastest upload
- Display shape: cropped to a circle, so keep faces and logos centered
Your Telegram profile picture is the first thing contacts see in chats, forwarded messages, and mentions. A 512 x 512 square gives you a sharp image on both mobile and desktop while leaving safe room for the circular crop.
Telegram channel cover and group cover photo
- Recommended size: 1280 x 1280 pixels (square, 1:1)
- Minimum size: 512 x 512 pixels
- Format: JPG or PNG
- Display: shown as a circle in the channel list and as a large square on the channel info screen
Telegram channels and groups use a square cover that the app crops to a circle in most views. Design with a centered focal point and avoid placing text near the edges so nothing important gets cut off.
In-chat and in-message photos
- Recommended width: 1280 pixels on the longest edge for standard sharing
- High-quality mode: up to 2560 pixels on the longest edge
- Aspect ratios: 1:1 (square), 4:5 (portrait), 16:9 (landscape) all display well
- Format: JPG for photos, PNG for graphics with flat colors, WEBP for smaller file sizes
- Maximum file size per photo: 10 MB when sent as a photo, up to 2 GB when sent as a file
Telegram automatically compresses photos sent in the default Photo mode. If you want to preserve the exact quality, send the file as a Document instead, but it will no longer show as an inline preview in chats.
Telegram sticker size
- Required size: exactly 512 x 512 pixels on one side (the other side can be less)
- Format: PNG with a transparent background, or WEBP
- Maximum file size: 512 KB per sticker
- Color: full color, with an optional white outline for visibility on dark and light themes
Stickers are one of Telegram’s signature features and they have the strictest rules of any placement. At least one side of every sticker must be exactly 512 pixels, the background must be transparent, and the file must stay under 512 KB. Our tool handles all three requirements automatically.
Telegram emoji packs and custom emoji
- Recommended size: 100 x 100 pixels
- Format: PNG with transparency or animated WEBM
- Maximum file size: 64 KB per emoji
Custom emoji let Telegram Premium users decorate messages with branded or personal icons. They are smaller than stickers but still require transparent backgrounds and crisp edges.

Best practices for Telegram images
- Design for compression. Telegram compresses photos sent in Photo mode. Start with high-contrast, high-resolution source images so the compressed result still looks clean.
- Send as a file to skip compression. If color accuracy matters, send the image as a Document. The preview disappears, but the original pixels are preserved.
- Keep stickers at 512 x 512 PNG with transparency. Telegram will reject stickers that do not hit the exact 512-pixel edge or that have a solid background.
- Add a 2 to 3 pixel white outline to stickers. It keeps them readable on both dark and light chat backgrounds.
- Center faces and logos. Circular crops on profile pictures and channel covers will cut off corners.
- Stay under size limits. Photos up to 10 MB send instantly; stickers must be under 512 KB; custom emoji must be under 64 KB.
- Use square 1:1 as your default. Squares look consistent in chat lists, channel previews, and link cards.
Frequently asked questions
What is the best image size for a Telegram post?
For a standard in-chat photo, 1280 x 1280 pixels as a square JPG gives you the best balance of quality and fast upload. For landscape content, use 1920 x 1080.
What is the Telegram image size limit?
Photos sent in Photo mode can be up to 10 MB. Files sent as Documents can be up to 2 GB on free accounts and 4 GB on Telegram Premium.
Why does my Telegram profile picture look blurry?
Usually because the source image was smaller than 512 x 512 pixels or heavily compressed before upload. Run it through the resizer and export a fresh 512 x 512 PNG or JPG.
Do Telegram stickers really have to be 512 x 512?
At least one side must be exactly 512 pixels, and the file must be a PNG or WEBP with transparency under 512 KB. Our tool enforces this automatically.
Can I resize animated images for Telegram?
You can upload GIFs and export a static frame at the correct Telegram photo dimensions. For animated stickers, Telegram requires TGS or WEBM formats created in dedicated animation tools.
Is the Telegram Photo Resizer free?
Yes. The tool is completely free, no account required, no watermark, and no upload limits for typical use.
